Fast ForWord

Fact: Reading is one of the most difficult skills your child will ever learn.

Language is a building block for all other skills in life. Auditory processing and language impact reading. If your child falls behind in reading, there is the risk that he or she will fall behind in other subjects as well. Fast ForWord, a computer program, helps solve this problem ? fast. The program can be completed in six to eight weeks and helps cultivate many critical skills:

  • Phonics and spelling patterns
  • Auditory processing skills that recognize language sound structures
  • Vocabulary
  • Reading comprehension

Does This Sound Like Your Child?

Children who are at risk for auditory processing problems often:

  • misunderstand what you say
  • deny hearing the beginning or middle of long verbal information
  • request that information be repeated
  • give slow or delayed responses
  • have difficulty reconstructing a story in appropriate order
  • have problems finding the right word to say
  • use imprecise words or phrases
  • use only a few descriptive words
  • are reluctant to engage in conversations

PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement)

Fact: If your child doesn't follow directions, has difficulty listening or can't sit still, his or her real problem may not be a lack of motivation, but rather a lack of processing skills.

Academic frustration can often lead to academic failure. The PACE program is tailor-made to uncover the processing problems holding your child back. We then train and strengthen your child's processing skills and help bring academic success within their reach.

PACE may be right for your child if he or she:

  • Can't sit still and is easily distracted
  • Won't tackle homework that looks complicated
  • Has difficulty comprehending and remembering instructions
  • Struggles to sound out words
  • Is very slow to complete any written work
  • Cannot copy material
  • Needs instructions repeated many times
  • Reads words backwards
  • Isn't organized

PACE develops:

  • Attention
  • Auditory Processing
  • Comprehension
  • Logic and Reasoning
  • Memory
  • Planning
  • Processing Speed
  • Visual Processing

Wilson Reading

Fact: One in seven Americans cannot read, write, or spell.

The Wilson Reading program is designed to help students who are dyslexic, have trouble spelling, or can't decode words. The Wilson reading system teaches more than just phonics. Through this 12-step reading and writing program your child will learn total word construction. After only a few weeks in the program, your child will have the skills needed to decode three and four-syllable words.

Making reading easier and more enjoyable will dramatically boost your child's self-esteem--academic frustration will be replaced with academic success.

Read Naturally

Fact: Elementary students only read an average of seven to eight minutes a day (US Department of Education).

Just like a sport such as basketball or tennis, reading is a skill that needs to be practiced every day. For children whose reading is labored, halting, and slow, reading isn't enjoyable and they often give up because it's so frustrating, which only widens the gap between them and their classmates. The Read Naturally program, which supports the Wilson Reading program, hones oral reading and comprehension by helping struggling students practice reading every day.

Everyday Mathematics

Fact: Understanding the foundational principles of math is key to comprehending more complex concepts.

Everyday Mathematics is a program developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project for kindergartners through sixth graders. Students learn computational skills and a wide variety of basic math concepts. Our staff is trained to support students using the Everyday Mathematics curriculum in their school.
